Meeting with the Cypriot Commissioner for personal data protection under Erasmus+ DataPRO Project!

Partner representatives of the Erasmus+ Project “DataPro” www.datapro-project.eu composed by Mr. Grassos, Metropolitan Collegewww.mitropolitiko.edu.gr, Mrs. Palaonda, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industrywww.ccci.org.cy  and Mrs. Daniel, Centre for Risk and Decision Sciences cerides.euc.ac.cy  had the honour to meet on 22nd May 2019  with the Cypriot Commissioner for personal data protection, Mrs. Irene Loizidou Nikolaidou.

As a response to the changing data protection environment and the integration within GDPR of new and improved rights, “DataPRO” project aims to incorporate the new digital mentality that is being shaped to companies, employees and young learners, while at the same time respond to the fragmented certification system in the field.

During the meeting with the Commissioner, partners had the opportunity to discuss the current situation in Cyprus regarding the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as the current compliance status. In particular, the Commissioner presented her views on issues related to the training needs of DPOs, and whether there is obligation of  DPOs Certification , as well as need to create a business oriented Occupational Profile for DPOs.
