Study of the Chernivtsi and Odessa Regions of Ukraine
The project concerned the assessment of economic structures and development potential in the Chernivtsi and Odessa regions, with the aim of better understanding local needs and development prospects. The main characteristics of the local economy, the strengths and weaknesses of the regions and potential opportunities for strengthening their economic activity were examined. At the same time, the effects of the (then) recent reorganisation of local government and of the decentralisation process were assessed, along with the capacity of regional bodies to design and implement effective development policies. EEO Group S.A. undertook the analysis of economic data and the mapping of the existing situation in the two regions, assessing local structures and their development potential. It recorded the needs of local bodies and evaluated the effectiveness of the institutional changes in the functioning of local administration. Finally, proposals were put forward to strengthen local development and improve the capacity of regional organisations to support the economic and social progress of the regions.
